Consigli di viaggio
Olbia is more than just a gateway to Sardinia — it's the perfect base for a romantic weekend. With its vibrant historic center, crystal-clear beaches within easy reach, and a relaxed pace of life, it's the ideal destination for couples who want the sea, great food, and quality time together. Here's how to make the most of 3 unforgettable days.
Why Choose Olbia for a Romantic Getaway
Olbia offers something rare: the convenience of a city with the atmosphere of a Mediterranean village. The historic center is entirely walkable, the restaurants are authentic, and the sea is just 15 minutes away. No excessive crowds, no inflated prices — especially outside the peak months.
Day 1 — The Historic Center and Sunset Aperitivo
Start slowly. A morning stroll along Corso Umberto, the main pedestrian street lined with cafés and boutiques. Stop at the Church of San Simplicio — one of the most beautiful Romanesque monuments in Sardinia, a true symbol of the city.
For lunch, find a local trattoria and order culurgiones (Sardinian filled pasta) or fresh fish. Simple, authentic, delicious.
In the afternoon, take a walk toward the harbor and along the seafront. Rent a bike if you want to explore the coastal stretch.
Evening: aperitivo with a sunset view. Local wine, pecorino cheese, pane carasau, cured meats. Let the evening unfold unhurriedly.
Day 2 — A Beach Day: Tavolara or the Costa Smeralda
Time for the sea. Two extraordinary options:
Option A: Tavolara Island Leave from Porto San Paolo (15 minutes from Olbia). Tavolara is spectacular — a limestone massif rising from the turquoise sea. A day of swimming, snorkeling, and lunch at the little beach restaurant. Romantic and unforgettable.
Option B: Costa Smeralda Beaches By car or bus, reach Spiaggia del Principe or Romazzino — white sand, emerald water, iconic Sardinian landscapes. In summer, arrive early to find a spot.
In the evening, back in Olbia, book a restaurant for a special dinner. Fresh fish, a bottle of Vermentino, soft lighting. Simple but perfect.
Day 3 — A Slow Morning and Local Flavors
Sleep in. A lazy breakfast together. If you have energy, drive to San Pantaleo — a charming hilltop village 20 minutes from Olbia, with boutiques, art galleries, and a peaceful square. On Thursdays there's a lively market.
Alternatively, one last beach you haven't seen yet — Porto Istana is nearby and gorgeous.
Final lunch: treat yourselves to a long Sardinian meal. Roast porceddu, handmade pasta, mirto to finish. A ritual.
When to Visit Olbia as a Couple
The best time for a romantic stay in Olbia? Outside the high season, when Sardinia reveals its most authentic and liveable side.
From April to June is ideal for those who love the crisp spring air and want to see the vegetation come back to life. The Sardinian landscape awakens with vivid colors, the sea begins to warm up, and the beaches are still almost empty. Prices are accessible and the atmosphere is relaxed — perfect for a couple who want to enjoy everything without the summer rush.
September and October offer something different and equally special: the warm, enveloping heat of late summer, the sea still mild and sunsets that look like paintings. The light turns golden, the pace slows down, restaurants breathe again. The sunsets of this period, in particular, are truly unforgettable.
August remains the least recommended option for a romantic escape: crowded beaches, high prices, and an energy more suited to mass tourism than an intimate weekend.
